"Small Business Saturday" is November 24---the antidote to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. So be thankful this long holiday weekend and patronize some of my favorite small businesses to fill your holiday wish lists.

There's a celebration at Maya Cafe, in Maplewood.
The Torture Chamber Orchestra plays at Maya Cafe every Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) and April Fools Day. The players are all musicians of some sort, but play instruments they don't normally play, or are just learning to play. The result is that they sound like a very dedicated seventh-grade band. At the Fall Food Frenzy, at Monarch, in Maplewood, 30 St. Louis-area restaurants will cook to benefit the ALS Association's local chapter.
