Del Norte Burglary Investigation Underway in Richmond Heights

Police are looking into whether the incident is tied to another burglary on Bellevue Avenue, an official said.

An April 12 burglary at a home on Del Norte Avenue is under investigation by the Richmond Heights Police Department, Sgt. Doug Schaeffler said Friday. Police are looking into the possibility that the incident is connected with a burglary the following day on Bellevue Avenue, he said. The Del Norte burglary happened in the street's 1500 block. Schaeffler declined to comment on what was taken from the home or how the perpetrator entered the building because the investigation is ongoing. Man Arrested After Break-In at Occupied Richmond Heights House

Scott M. Smith was arrested in connection with the case near the Bellevue Avenue home, police stated in a report.

A man arrested Friday is suspected of having broken into a Richmond Heights house in the 1900 block of Bellevue Avenue while the resident was inside. Scott M. Smith, 21, of Barnhart is charged with first-degree burglary and property damage. Smith is suspected of breaking a window pane in a door and damaging a window handle while attempting to enter the home, according to a Richmond Heights Police Department report. A woman in the home became aware of a person's presence and called 911 as she watched him flee from her home. Police said that they arrested Smith nearby and that the resident identified him.
