Last-Minute Richmond Heights Taxpayers Profiled on NPR

They visited a Richmond Heights post office Monday to mail their federal paperwork, according to the report.

Last week's federal tax-filing deadline drew numerous St. Louisans to a post office in Richmond Heights, National Public Radio reported. Quoting from the NPR report via Minnesota Public Radio: "The number of people who still file by mail has gone way down, especially after the Internal Revenue Service stopped mailing out paper forms last year. But there are still a few million people who file their returns the old-fashioned way." Hear from a Richmond Heights investment adviser and others about why they decided to file their taxes by mail in the complete NPR report.

Clayshire Electric Building Remains for Sale

The facility has stood vacant on Big Bend Boulevard for a little over a year, owner Richard Wolters said.

The Clayshire Electric building, 1215 S. Big Bend Blvd., has been on the market in Richmond Heights for a little over a year. People have expressed interest in purchasing the site, but so far it isn't under contract, its owner said this week. "That's a fine location," said Richard Wolters, the owner of the building and the person responsible for marketing the site. Between 25,000 and 27,000 cars pass the building daily, he said, giving the location good visibility. Wolters continues to remove merchandise, tools and equipment from the building. While the sale price of the building hasn't been finalized, it will likely be around $600,000. The 4,000-square-foot facility has been operated in a number of different ways over the years, including…

Plan Would Shift Council Representatives' Districts

Population changes reflected in the 2010 census are guiding a redistricting effort in Richmond Heights that would mean some residents have new City Council representatives.

The proposal would shift 257 residents living in the western part of District 1 into District 4. The affected area is bordered by South Hanley Road to the west; Clayton Road to the north; Surrey Hills Drive and Laclede Station Road to the east; and Highway 40 to the south. Councilmen Paul Lore and Matt Casey represent District 1, while Councilwomen Camille Greenwald and Connie Williams represent District 4. The decision to shift district boundaries is part of an effort to ensure each of the city's four districts contains approximately 2,150 people each, said David Reary, who is filling in for City …

Road-Widening Project Zaps Former MRH Tailgating Area

What was once a parking lot near the Maplewood Richmond Heights High School football field will become a sidewalk and green space intended to enhance traffic safety.

As anyone driving through Maplewood can see, Manchester Road is undergoing some changes.  The road is being widened between Big Bend Boulevard and Bredell Avenue to increase safety and improve stormwater runoff, said Anthony Traxler, director of the Maplewood Public Works Department. The city will spend about $180,000 on the project while the federal government pays another $420,000.  (See related on Patch: Upgrades Slated for Seven Maplewood Streets)  But the changes will end a well-known tradition: tailgating during Maplewood Richmond Heights High School home football games.  Aaron Ford, a regular tailgater and MRH graduate, said he hopes to find an alternative. He said the team appreciates the support from that side of the field. “My …
