Bar Les Freres Set to Open on Wydown by Summer's End

Clayton aldermen approved a permit for the business at a meeting last week.

An operating permit has been approved for Bar Les Freres, a petite French cafe and bar planned on Wydown Boulevard. The Clayton Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to move forward with the development at a meeting Tuesday. Construction is expected to begin in a couple of weeks, and the restaurant is set to open by the end of the summer, owner Zoe Robinson said. Like Starbucks a few retail spaces down, Bar Les Freres will feature outdoor dining. The outdoor area will double the number of patrons the restaurant can accommodate. "I have a little bit more space, so we're terracing it," Robinson said. "… The whole space is very elegant." It also boasts what she described as "beautiful arched windows." Robinson said she is working with fire …

Vehicle Thefts in Clayton Don't Appear Connected, Police Say

The most recent incident happened Tuesday on Wydown Boulevard.

Two vehicle thefts reported in the last month in Clayton do not appear to be connected, an official said this week. A vehicle was reported stolen Tuesday from a parking lot in the 6800 block of Wydown Boulevard near Fontbonne University, Officer Korey Golcynski of the Clayton Police Department said. It happened overnight, and no evidence such as shattered glass was left at the scene. Golcynski said he did not know whether the vehicle had been locked before the theft occurred. Detectives are investigating the case. A vehicle was reported stolen from a parking lot March 31 in the 100 block of South Hanley Road, but Golcynski said the two incidents appear to be unrelated. Flipped Wydown Signs? Those Protect Students

A reader made the observation about the Clayton signs this weekend via the online SeeClickFix tool.

Clayton crossing guards can rotate stop signs on Wydown Boulevard near Hanley Road to help safeguard students crossing the street, public works director Michael Pratt said Monday. A Clayton-Richmond Heights Patch reader reported noticing the turned signs over the weekend: "The stop signs for both east and westbound Wydown are turned backward," the reader wrote on the online SeeClickFix tool. "Must be some silly prank. Please turn the signs the right way." In fact, the stop signs on Wydown Boulevard at Westwood Drive are made to turn that way, Pratt stated in an email. "During school drop-off periods in the morning and again during pick-up periods in the afternoon, school crossing guards turn the signs to stop traffic on Wydown and allow …

Sun Glare at Wydown and Hanley Worries Driver

The St. Louis County Department of Highways and Traffic will look into the signage issue in Clayton.

Electronic message boards at Wydown Boulevard and Hanley Road in Clayton will soon get attention from St. Louis County's department of highways and traffic. The decision comes after Clayton-Richmond Heights Patch reader Gale Loman reported accidentally turning right onto northbound Hanley from Wydown on a red light. Two electronic message boards along the west edge of Hanley instruct drivers against doing that. Loman wrote that glare from the sun at 7 a.m. blocked out the words on one of the signs and questioned whether they could be tilted so drivers aren't ticketed. "We have not received any complaints about that particular problem, the glare, but we'll certainly look into it (as) soon as possible, probably later this week," said David …
