Police are investigating break-ins in both cities.
Police are alerting University City and Clayton residents to keep the doors to their homes locked and alarms activated. Clayton Police officers caught Rodney Dunlap loading his vehicle with $4,600 worth of property from a home in the 8100 block of Westmoreland Avenue in Clayton. Dunlap is charged with stealing and second degree burglary. University City Police officers told KMOV Dunlap is also being investigated for a similar crime in U City. U City resident Francine Attoun told KMOV she didn't feel safe anymore. “We really don’t leave our house at night much even though we have an alarm system,” Attoun said. A Washington University student reported the crime.
The Washington University Police Department is reporting a robbery and auto theft that occurred late last night in the Delmar Loop. According to the Washington University Police, the robbery occurred around 12:15 a.m. in the 600 block of Leland (near Leland and Delmar). The Wash U crime alert reports the following: Police in University City are investigating a robbery and auto theft that occurred about 12:15am on Thursday. The victim reported that he was approached by two subjects as he exited his car in the 600 block of Leland. The subjects requested assistance in starting a vehicle. Chase led from St. Louis to University City.
A police chase from the city of St. Louis to University City led to a man being shot in the ankle Thursday. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the incident started in St. Louis, and officers pursued a man to the 6800 block of Roberts Avenue in University City. It wasn't immediately clear where the chase started or what triggered it. The spokeswoman told the Post-Dispatch that at least part of it was on foot. The man pointed the rifle at officers at some point during the altercation, and was shot in the ankle. Police described the man's gun as looking like an "assault rifle." We have started a Neighborhood Watch in our UCity neighborhood to combat this type of crime. It would be helpful for police officers to add their comments to articles like this. Such as, what made Mr. Dunlap (and it makes me cringe to refer to a low-life in this way) decide to target this house?   more ›
