Officers Interrupted Man Loading Stolen Items Into Car, Police Say

The man had broken into a home in the 8100 block of Westmoreland Avenue and his car was parked in the driveway.

An officer spotted a man loading his car with items he had just stolen from Clayton home in the 8100 block of Westmoreland Avenue at about 7:50 p.m. Nov. 18, police said. Rodney Dunlap, 45, of the 3500 block of Grer Avenue in St. Louis, was charged Nov. 19 with second-degree burglary and felony stealing. Clayton Police said an officer on patrol spotted Dunlap loading his car, which was parked in the victims’ driveway, with items he’d stolen from the house. The items included a flat-screen television, two laptop computers, 74 pieces of jewelry, and a watch. The items were valued at $4,600 according to the police report. Stolen Jeep Returned to Richmond Heights Owner

The vehicle theft happened this month on Dale Avenue, a Richmond Heights Police Department official said.

A car stolen from Richmond Heights has been returned to its owner, police said last week. The 2000 Jeep Cherokee was reported stolen April 10. Its owner came outside and found it missing from where it had been parked on the street in the 7300 block of Dale Avenue, Sgt. Doug Schaeffler of the Richmond Heights Police Department said. The theft happened overnight. Police recovered the vehicle the following week in north St. Louis city and returned it to the owner, Schaeffler said. No suspects were in custody in the case as of Friday morning. An investigation was ongoing.
