Clayton Priest Facing a 40-Year Prison Sentence After Ponzi Scheme Conviction

A Clayton lawyer and priest who was convicted in April of a $52 million Ponzi scheme is expected to receive a prison sentence of 40 years, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on Thursday. Martin Sigillito, 63, who once operated Martin T. Sigillito and Associates in Clayton and also served as a priest in that city, was taken into federal custody in April. A jury found him guilty of all 20 charges he faced—one count of conspiracy, nine counts of wire fraud, six counts of money laundering and four counts of mail fraud. One of Sigillito's partners, the 67-year-old James Scott Brown, of Leawood, KS, was also convicted.
