Fresh baked pies from Clayton resident Jane Callahan, owner of Pie Oh My! have been available in St. Louis at Local Harvest, Baumann’s, Kaldi’s, Spencer’s Grill in Kirkwood and at the Clayton Farmers Market. Beginning today Callahan will also sell from her own location, at 2719 Sutton Boulevard in Maplewood. She’ll open her doors at 11 a.m. All her pies are made from fresh, seasonal ingredients, such as the box of peaches sitting in her kitchen on Tuesday. The Clayton business might be the only vintage 1930s soda fountain where a person can finish off a bowl of chili, buy a bacon-scented air freshener and engage in an impromptu trivia game with staff—all while getting a prescription filled.
Jennifer's Pharmacy & Soda Shoppe, now in its 20th year, is a full-service pharmacy and soda fountain located in downtown Clayton at 30 N. Central Ave., just up the street from a pair of dueling Irish pubs and a tapas bar. The inside looks like an Archie McPhee catalog exploded inside a vintage 1930s corner shop. That's no accident. The eponymous Jennifer Rich, owner and licensed pharmacist, dreamed of opening her own store while in college. "In my spare time, I'd design the store," Rich said. "I dreamed of this. I love it."
