Win $10,000 in St. Louis Bread Co. Sandwich Contest

The company is seeking the best recipes of people in Richmond Heights and Clayton through October 6, 2012.

St. Louis Bread Co. is giving away $10,000, free bagels for a year and more as part of a sandwich-recipe contest, University City Patch reported. Residents of Richmond Heights and Clayton are invited to participate through Oct. 6. There are several Bread Co. locations in the Mid-County area, including: Quoting from the Patch article: "During the month of January of 2013, a portion of proceeds from the sale of each winning sandwich will be donated to a non-profit organization. " Learn more about participation and prizes in the contest in the complete University City Patch article. Clayton-Piloted Bread Company Cafe Launches in Chicago

Patrons of the restaurant are asked to pay what they can, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Chicago now has a specialized Saint Louis Bread Company cafe patterned after one in Clayton, the Chicago Tribune reported. Quoting from the Tribune article: "Panera is turning one of its first Chicago stores over to the community. The store at 616 W. Diversey Pkwy. is converting to a pay-what-you-can model Thursday with only suggested prices and donation boxes." Plugged In: St. Louis Bread Company is Home Office for Many

The first installment of this occasional column surveys the working conditions at Bread Co. branches, including in Clayton and Richmond Heights.

If you frequent St. Louis Bread Company (known to those outside St. Louis as Panera), you can hardly fail to notice people working. Yes, the employees are busy serving up soups, sandwiches and scones. But I'm talking about the people hunched over their laptops and talking business over coffee and bagels.  “We see interviews taking place," area director Don Hutcheson said. "There’s cubicle zombies that are looking to get out of their office and sit down with a (cup) of coffee. It's a real big escape for lots of people." I am one of those people. Patch does not have offices, so I divide my time between a desk in my spare bedroom and tables at cafés. Bread Co. is ideal for lots of reasons. Plenty of locations around metro St. Louis? Check. …
