Doris and her late husband Donald O. Schnuck founded Schnucks Markets grocery stores.
Doris Schnuck, wife of the late Donald O. Schnuck, died May 11, 2013, at her home in Clayton. Together the Schnucks expanded Schnucks Markets, which has grown to include over 100 grocery stores. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Schnuck, 88, had been in failing health recently. Her children run the family company now. Quoting from the Post-Dispatch: Scott Schuck is chairman of the board and CEO. Todd Schnuck is president and COO. Craig Schnuck is chairman of the executive committee. Mark Schnuck is president of Desco Group, the family's real estate operation. Terry Schnuck and daughter Nancy Diemer are retired from day-to-day operations at the company. The Washington University research scientist, Charlie Parker, died this week at the age of 83 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Washington University School of Medicine research scientist Charlie Parker, 83, died this week after a battle with pancreatic cancer. (Read the Post-Dispatch article here.) Parker grew up in Webster Groves where he graduated from the high school in 1947, the Post-Dispatch article states. His research not only helped better treatments for allergy and asthma sufferers, but the Post also reports Parker developed penicillin skin-testing which determines if patients are at high risk for anaphylaxis. Parker, a professor of medicine at Washington University for more than four decades, reportedly founded Washington University’s division of allergy and immunology in 1964. Fox was a longtime columnist for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Suburban Journals.
Jim Fox, a newspaper reporter and columnist for over 70 years, died Sunday at his home in Affton. He was 91. Fox was a Washington University graduate and later taught journalism at Wash U and Webster University. According the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Fox joined the paper in 1951. He worked as a copy editor, reporter, telegraph editor, city editor and feature writer. His final Suburban Journal column is slated to run Wednesday, Jan. 16. Fox donated his body to the Washington University School of Medicine. A full obituary is available online.

The Clayton High School graduate worked for years in the automotive industry, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Clayton High School graduate Paul Melburne Taylor spent years working as a leader in the automotive industry, including as an Enterprise Rent-A-Car employee, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. He died Sept. 25 at age 88. Quoting from the Post-Dispatch: "Paul first joined the Lindbergh Cadillac organization in St. Louis. After managing a dealer group in Tuscon, Arizona, Paul moved to San Francisco, California where he went on to manage what was then the largest Lincoln-Mercury dealership in the country." Richard H. Gerding died Sunday at age 78. He was a longtime employee of the Richmond Heights Fire Department, having served as an administrative assistant to fire chiefs Pat O’Neal, C. Larry Drexler and Kerry Hogan. Patch wishes to thank Mr. Gerding's family for sharing the following life story. Life Born in St. Louis, MO on April 10, 1934, and asleep in Jesus on Sunday, September 9, 2012. Mr. Gerding married the late Yasuko Doi in Tokyo, Japan. They were married for 52 years.
