Local Soccer Star Returns to Missouri for New Pro Women's League

Becky Sauerbrunn, an Olivette native and Ladue Horton Watkins graduate, will play for FC Kansas City when the new league launches. Sauerbrunn played for the U.S. Women's National Team during its gold medal run in the Olympics.

A new attempt to start a women's professional soccer league in the United States will have a distinctly local flair. The National Women's Soccer League, which debuts this spring, announced where members of the U.S. Women's National Team were assigned to play Friday. Olivette native Becky Sauerbrunn was assigned to FC Kansas City. The website ussoccer.com has a list of all the player allocations Sauerbrunn, who graduated from Ladue Horton Watkins High School and played college soccer at the University of Virginia, played on a pair of Washington, D.C.-based teams in earlier attempts at pro leagues which eventually ceased operations. She most recently suited up for D.C. United Women, a second-tier league team affiliated with the Major League …
