Menards is expected to provide more details about its progress in the Richmond Heights neighborhood in the next month, City Manager Amy Hamilton stated in a news release.

The City of Richmond Heights issued the following news release Saturday after the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Pace Properties is no longer planning a $125 million retail development in the northern portion of Hadley Township. Is This the Last Chance for Hadley Township Redevelopment?

It may be Richmond Heights' last attempt, according to Mayor James Beck, who was interviewed by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Thursday.

Pace Properties would like to buy the northern half of 40 acres in the Hadley Township area in Richmond Heights for a retail development. The homeowners are in limbo, not knowing if it will go through or not. It's the third time in six years a developer has tried this. In a St. Louis Post-Dispatch article, Mayor James Beck stated that the current effort by Pace Properties to develop Hadley Township may be the last, if it fails. City Services Safe Under 2013 Richmond Heights Budget

Keeping several city positions unfilled for the 2013 fiscal year that begins July 1 will enable Richmond Heights to attain a balanced budget, City Manager Amy Hamilton wrote in a memo this week. The jobs that would remain unfilled for a fifth year are one police officer, two firefighter-paramedics and one public works operator. Various part-time staff hours also would not be filled. At the same time, the city would be able to maintain all of the public services currently provided to residents while providing a 3 percent merit pay increase to staff. Beck Wins Second Term; Boulton Joins Clayton Aldermen

A variety of uncontested races happened Tuesday in Richmond Heights and Clayton, as well as two contested races for St. Louis Community College board positions.

Mayor James Beck won re-election Tuesday in Richmond Heights in one of several uncontested Mid-County races. Meanwhile, Joanne Boulton will join the Clayton Board of Aldermen for the first time as a Ward 1 representative. Richmond Heights City Council will see two newcomers: Former police chief Rick Vilcek will succeed Jim Thomson as a District 2 representative, while Robert Jacknewitz will succeed Paul Lore as a District 1 representative. Richmond Heights Centennial Planning Begins

The city's historical society is planning tours and a speaker series for 2013, while others are working on a large celebration paired with monthly events.

One large party, accompanied by a variety of monthly events, will serve as the cornerstone of 100th anniversary celebrations next year in Richmond Heights. Festivities likely would include a parade, carnival rides and music. That consensus came Thursday at The Heights during a centennial brainstorming session that included residents, city staff and elected officials. Election 2012: Richmond Heights Mayor Beck Seeks Second Term

Mayor James Beck previously served as a City Council representative.

Mayor James Beck has filed for a second term in Richmond Heights. He joins District 3 Councilwoman Gina Mitten as the second person in the city to file for April's election, Deputy City Clerk Pat Villmer stated Wednesday in an email. Beck is a mortgage banker and broker for The Mortgage Network, a biography on the City of Richmond Heights website states. He served for three terms as a City Council representative. Candidates will be elected to a total of five open seats—one mayoral and four council—on April 3. Those interested in running for office in Richmond Heights have until 5 p.m. Jan. 13 to file.
