Coach Paul Hoelscher and the Clayton Greyhounds girls soccer team approach each and every season with success in mind. “It’s good to be back on track," said Hoelscher, noting that the team finished below .500 in 2010. "We expect to win more than we lose.” The Lady Greyhounds finished the season with an 11-7 mark. Clayton compiled a 3-0 record in the Suburban East Conference to win the league. The Lady Greyhounds were followed by Affton, Normandy, Jennings and Ladue. Clayton’s season came to an end May 16 with a 1-0 loss to Westminster in district play. The St. Clair girls basketball team won, 52-32, on Dec. 2.
The Clayton Lady Greyhounds continued to beat themselves Dec. 2 as they committed 30 turnovers in a loss to the St. Clair Bulldogs, 52-32. The Greyhounds entered the night playing for third place in the Clayton High School Varsity Girls Basketball Tournament. The team also lost Dec. 1 to the Principia Panthers, 51-25. St. Clair entered the game Dec. 2 having lost 49-33 earlier in the week to McCluer North. Both St. Clair and Clayton started the game in offensive slumps. After a three-minute period that saw the teams tied at two points apiece, St. Clair scored its second field goal for a 4-2 lead and never looked back.
