Man Injured Richmond Heights Police Officer With Kick in Knee, Police Say

Officers had been dispatched to the home in the 1400 block of Collins Avenue on a disturbance report.

A man injured a Richmond Heights police officer early Friday morning by kicking him in the back of the knee, causing him to collapse to the floor. Richmond Heights Police said the officer went to the hospital with “a severe injury to the back of the knee.” Freddie Shaw, 50, of the 1400 block of Collins Avenue in Richmond Heights, was charged Friday with second-degree assault on an officer and resisting arrest. Richmond Heights Police said officers were dispatched to Shaw’s home for a reported disturbance at about 12:39 a.m. Friday. There were obvious signs of a struggle in the home, and Shaw’s sister-in-law said Shaw had barricaded himself in an upstairs room and refused to come out.
