Turkey Trip: Clayton Chamber Offers Overseas Adventure

The November trip is open to the public and will include seven nights in Istanbul.

Residents of Clayton, Richmond Heights and other cities are being invited to explore Istanbul, Turkey, this fall as part of a trip sponsored by the Clayton Chamber of Commerce. "What I've heard about Istanbul is that it's an ancient city with an urban feel of today," said Ellen Gale, the Chamber's director. "It's kind of mixing old and new. It spans two continents." The Chamber announced the trip Feb. 14 in an email alert. Participants will depart Nov. 7 and return Nov. 15. The trip is open to the public. Organizers polled the community about the Chamber's next trip a while back. Other destinations included in the poll were Cuba and Prague. Clayton Idol Raises Funds For Joplin Tornado Victims

Seven talented singers competed for fame, glory, prizes and charity in an event sponsored by the Clayton Chamber of Commerce.

Seven talented karaoke singers competed Thursday night as part of Clayton Idol, a Clayton Chamber of Commerce event benefiting the tornado relief effort in Joplin, MO. “It was so successful last year that we decided to do it again," said Ellen Gale, executive director of the chamber, before the competition began. The excitement was palpable as guests filed into DD's Irish Pub and Lounge to witness the event. Crooners sang a mix of rock, Motown, country and jazz while competing for prizes. A portion of the money raised will go toward Joplin tornado relief, Gale said, though a specific charity had not been determined. Huntleigh McGehee sponsored the event.
