The facility aims to help children develop by exploring nature and is the brainchild of Richmond Heights parks operations superintendent Tim Brunsman.
*Editor's note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly identified the outdoor classroom's hours of operation. It will be open from dusk until dawn. This article has been updated to reflect the correct time. This week, Tim Brunsman discovered a toad as big as his fist after turning over a log at the new Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom in Richmond Heights. It brought back childhood memories of time spent outdoors. Brunsman is the city's parks operations superintendent, and he grew up in rural Fenton. Back then, other kids at Saint Louis University High School poked fun at his country roots. Now, Brunsman is having the last laugh. He spearheaded a campaign by Richmond Heights and Maplewood to develop the outdoor learning space, …

It happened Saturday.
Horns blared, sirens wailed and engines roared as children and adults got an up-close view of trucks, boats, fire engines, police cars and other vehicles during Tons of Transportation at Deer Creek Park on Saturday. The cities of Richmond Heights and Maplewood hosted the event. Now in its ninth year, the free event is billed as a "hands on adventure," allowing kids the opportunity to climb on and explore equipment including a front loader and a fire engine. They did show improvement, but not quite enough. MRH senior ace pitcher Kevin Sapp faced Brentwood junior Kevin Smith, and while each turned in a great performance, Smith came out on top. The Eagles shut out the Blue Devils again, this time 2-0. It was Smith's third straight shutout. Sapp kept MRH in the game, but the Blue Devils couldn't capitalize with men on base. "Kevin gave us a very strong performance on the mound, and that's something that we have to take advange of," MRH coach Jonathan Webb said. "We didn't really do that, and we had our opportunities. We had second …
