The statewide initiative is happening in conjunction with proms and graduation ceremonies happening throughout the St. Louis area.
Clayton Police Department officials are participating through Sunday in a Missouri-wide crackdown on drunken driving, the city announced in a news release. The initiative began Thursday. Proms and graduation ceremonies are happening throughout the month. “Driving drunk is simply not worth all the consequences,” Chief Tom Byrne stated. “Zero tolerance means zero chances: Drive sober or get pulled over.” More than 200 people died last year in the state in crashes that involved an impaired driver, the release states. More than 900 people sustained serious injuries in such accidents.
