Drunk Driver Stowed Stolen, Loaded Handguns Within Reach, Police Say

Clayton Police said a woman stopped for drunk driving had two firearms nearby. One of the weapons had been reported stolen.

A woman pulled over for a traffic violation in Clayton was driving drunk with two loaded handguns within the driver’s reach, police said. One of the handguns had been reported stolen. Kaitlin Michelle Shelton, 19, of Springfield, MO, was charged Friday with receiving stolen property, unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. Clayton Police said an officer pulled Shelton over for a traffic violation at Big Bend Boulevard and Southmoor Drive on Jan. 21. The officer said he saw signs that she was drunk. After she did poorly on a sobriety test, Shelton took a Breathalyzer test that showed a blood-alcohol content of 0.141 percent. Shelton was arrested and the officer searched her car. St. Louis County Drunk Driving Crackdown This Weekend

Police will conduct operation A.R.R.E.S.T. this weekend in St. Louis County to crack down on impaired driving.

Missouri State Highway Patrol officers made the announcement of the crackdown in a news release. According to the release, “Operation A.R.R.E.S.T” (Alcohol Related Response Enforcement Strike Team) will take place in St. Louis County Saturday. The operation will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 3 a.m., Sunday. "The purpose of Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. is to increase the motoring public’s awareness of the potential hazards of operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition," the MSHP stated in the release. Six Missouri state troopers will be conducting the operation across the county this weekend. Clayton Man Gets Third DWI Charge After Driving Over Curb for 50 Feet

Clayton Police said the man couldn't maintain a single lane while driving Jan. 12 on Forsyth Boulevard near Kingsbury Boulevard.

A man faces his third drunk driving charge after Clayton Police said he drove over a curb for about 50 feet and couldn’t stay in a single lane on Forsyth Boulevard Jan. 12. Gregory J. Welch, of the 8000 block of Maryland Avenue in Clayton, was charged Jan. 13 with driving while intoxicated as a persistent offender. Clayton Police said Welch was weaving as he drove near Forsyth and Kingsbury boulevards Jan. 12. When officers pulled him over, they said he appeared to be drunk. Welch took a breathalyzer test, which showed his blood-alcohol content to be .146 percent, according to the police report. DWI Charge in Clayton is Man's Third Since 2000

The St. Louis County man received a suspended sentence of four years after pleading guilty in 2011 to a DWI.

A St. Louis County man faces his third DWI charge since 2000 after a Clayton officer pulled him over at 2:10 a.m. last Tuesday on Clayton Road. Police said the man’s blood-alcohol content measured at .243, more than three times the legal limit. Christopher Heil, 45, of the 1400 block of Willowbrooke in St. Louis County, was charged with driving while intoxicated as an aggravated offender, a class C felony. Heil previously pleaded guilty to DWI on June 28, 2011 and Jan. 25, 2000. He also pleaded guilty to driving with excessive blood-alcohol content on March 21, 2001. Police: Man Stole Car from Hanley Road Parking Lot

Matthew A. Grill is suspected of having driven the vehicle while intoxicated, police stated in a report.

A man has been charged with stealing a 2001 Chevrolet Camaro in Clayton. Matthew A. Grill, 33, of the first block of Muir Street in Eureka, was charged July 18in St. Louis County Circuit Court. Grill is suspected of having stolen the vehicle from a parking lot at 121 South Hanley Road between 8:30 and 11:59 p.m. March 30, the Clayton Police Department stated in a report. Clayton police arrested him the next day on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, the report states. He also was driving the stolen car, police said. Bond was set at $7,500.
