Clayton Dog Park Gains $50K Gift From Local Family

The park at Haddington Court will be renamed following the contribution.

A plan to construct a four-acre dog park in Haddington Court gained significant financial support from a local family last week.  David and Lynne Anderson agreed to contribute $50,000 to the Clayton Century Foundation to help pay for startup costs associated with constructing the park. The park will be renamed to "Anderson Park" following the donation. The Clayton Board of Aldermen approved the name change during a meeting last Tuesday.  Several dog park supporters were in attendance.  "We have several representatives of the dog park task force, as they are known, in the audience," said Mayor Linda Goldstein during the meeting. Haddington Park Would Be Clayton's Newest Open Space

The facility would host a dog park for residents just north of the Saint Louis Galleria.

Haddington Park has been proposed as the name of Clayton's newest open space. The area just north of the Saint Louis Galleria would include a dog park for residents. Members of the Clayton Parks and Recreation Commission came up with the name as part of their Monday meeting, Ward 1 Alderman Andrea Maddox-Dallas announced this week. Maddox-Dallas is an aldermanic liaison to the commission. The suggestion corresponds with the location of the park on Haddington Court. Land became available after homeowners there participated in a flood buyout program. Survey: Dog Facility at Shaw Park Has Support

A majority of Clayton dog owners said they would likely use an off-leash facility at the park.

A majority of dog-owning Clayton residents sampled in a recent survey say they would favor the placement of a dog park in Shaw Park. Sixty-five percent said they would be very or somewhat likely to use a fenced off-leash dog park. And 50 percent of dog owners surveyed said they would be very or somewhat likely to use such a park if it were to charge a yearly fee. Forty-six percent of households sampled indicated that they owned at least one dog. (Download a copy of the survey from the City of Clayton website.) Olathe, KS,-based ETC Institute conducted the study at the request of the Clayton Board of Aldermen. Of the 1,500 households contacted by mail as part of a random sample, 693 responded.
