Each week in Friday Food Critic, we nominate a new restaurant for you to review, and you have the opportunity to win a $10 gift card. That's right, you're the local expert.
When it comes to restaurants, Clayton has it covered. But what we don't have is a consistent food critic to tell us what's good and what's not. That's where you come in. We could throw some money at a professional food critic, but that isn't what Patch is all about. We'd much rather know the opinion of the fine folks that eat there day-in and day-out. It's your community. You eat the food. You tell us if it passes the mark. That's why we are introducing the Friday Food Critic column. You tell us how you feel about these restaurants, which dishes are good, who has the best drink specials and so forth. In exchange, we will select three random winners each week who upload a restaurant review and give them a $10 gift card to the restaurant of…

Water has been restored to Missouri American Water customers affected Monday afternoon by a water main break on Clayton Road just east of Hanley Road, a utility representative stated. The water was turned back on as of about 9:35 p.m. Monday, and road repairs were expected to be finished by 11:30 p.m., Ann Dettmer said. The break happened at about 2:30 p.m. and had closed all lanes of westbound Clayton Road, Community Services Officer Korey Golcynski of the Clayton Police Department said. Missouri American Water was on the scene. Traffic was diverted to Westwood Drive, but that street is small and can only handle a limited number of vehicles. People traveling home from work were encouraged to avoid westbound Clayton Road. Drivers were …

But parking at the building just north of the Saint Louis Galleria isn't expected to become a problem, a city memo states.
Parking problems are not expected to result from a planned expansion of Advanced Orthopedics in Clayton. The business is located at 8225 Clayton Rd., just north of the Saint Louis Galleria. The Clayton Board of Aldermen approved the modification of parking requirements at the location during its March 27 meeting. The move means the property owner will not have to provide parking beyond the 61 spaces already available at the site. A study conducted during a day in February found parking-space occupancy ranged from 44 percent to 66 percent, a memo from City Manager Craig Owens and director of planning and development services Susan Istenes states. Advanced Orthopedics plans to move from its 1,562 square feet of space on the building's second…

The ceremony at SSM St. Mary's Health Center in Richmond Heights happened Thursday afternoon.
*Editor's note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly described the interior of a fountain at SSM St. Mary's Health Center. The interior is painted to look like the terrazzo flooring once located inside Mother Concordia Hall. This article has been updated to include the correct description. A large crowd of people gathered Thursday afternoon at SSM St. Mary's Health Center in Richmond Heights for a blessing and dedication of the hospital's new lobby and entrance. "This is just the beginning," Chief Nursing Officer Patti Kelley said. She said the changes come in conjunction with the hospital's renewed attention to its mission, specifically women's health. The new entrance, which faces Clayton Road between Bellevue and Yale avenues…

During the Richmond Heights meeting on Monday, city council members unanimously approved a resolution allowing city officials to renegotiate terms with Mullenix-Richmond Heights Redevelopment Corp. The developer plans to build another parking garage and hotel on the southeast corner of 2.54 acres at the southeast corner of Brentwood Boulevard and Clayton Road. “This allows us to negotiate the major business points of the project,” said City Manager Amy Hamilton. “Then, we’ll bring it back to the city council, and if they give their approval then we’ll formally put the time frame out there.” She said the negotiations would totally rework the construction project’s time frame. Originally, the agreement called for Mullenix to begin on the …

It's hard to see from the outside, but wing-by-wing renovations to the patient rooms have actually been taking place over the last few years. We opened new maternity rooms on 6-West in early 2011 and 5-East reopened this month. Both are Mother-Baby units. It is difficult to showcase patient areas in quite the same way as a common area as the lobby, so please watch for details on an open house …   more ›
