Clayton Has No. 2 Best Missouri High School, U.S. News Reports

The publication released the rankings last week.

Clayton High School has been named the No. 2 best high school in Missouri, according to rankings released last week by U.S. News & World Report. The school is ranked 136th best nationally. Its student-teacher ratio is smaller than the state average. Meanwhile, students ranked higher than average in the areas of college readiness, algebra proficiency and English proficiency. Editorial: Clayton Opposition to 'Don't Say Gay' Bill is Sound

Students were right to protest the proposal in the Missouri House, a St. Louis Post-Dispatch editorial states.

Members of the Gay Straight Alliance at Clayton High School were right to protest the "Don't Say Gay" bill last week, a St. Louis Post-Dispatch editorial states. Quoting from the Post-Dispatch editorial: "As we wrote on this page last month, House Republicans should be ashamed to be pushing House Bill 2051, which would ban discussion of sexual orientation in public schools except for in the very narrow case of a health or biology class." Louise Losos Gets $140K and Recommendation Letter with Settlement

The terms of the agreement were announced Tuesday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Dr. Louise Losos will receive $140,000 as part of a settlement agreement with the School District of Clayton, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday. The Clayton High School principal will resign effective later this year after a dispute about social media use. A forum on the rise in heroin use in the St. Louis area happened Monday night at Clayton High School, FOX2-TV reported. Quoting from the FOX2 report, one speaker "told the audience that one way to stop a heroin addiction before it ever starts is to lock up the medicine cabinet at home.  He says many heroin users start their addiction by taking prescription pain killers." News of the upcoming resignation of Dr. Louise Losos from Clayton High School over a dispute about social media use has prompted reactions from people via social media. Go Green Clayton 5K Attracts 400 in Second Year

The event happened Sunday and benefits organizations such as the Clayton Century Foundation.

Approximately 400 people participated Sunday in the Go Green Clayton 5K at Gay Field in Clayton, said Nicole Miller, physical education and health curriculum coordinator for the School District of Clayton. The run received sponsorship from the Clayton High School (CHS) Green Club, the school district and the Clayton Century Foundation. The event was intended to promote healthy living, community pride and a greener Clayton, according to information provided at the run. The day included a 5K for adults and a shorter fun run for younger participants. “You can’t do enough of these types of events for kids,” Miller said. “It keeps them active, and they get really excited about being outdoors.” This year’s 5K run marks the second year for the …

Dr. Dan Gutchewsky Named Interim Principal at Clayton High School

He will succeed the resigning Dr. Louise Losos and serve as interim leader through the end of the 2012-13 school year.

Dr. Dan Gutchewsky has been named interim principal at Clayton High School (CHS) through the end of the 2012-13 school year, the School District of Clayton announced Monday morning. He succeeds Dr. Louise Losos, who will resign June 30 after a dispute over social media use. “I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead Clayton High School,” Gutchewsky stated in a news release from the district. “I look forward to leading our community through all of our end-of-the-year events and working next year to ensure that CHS continues to meet the high expectations held by our students, parents and community.” Gutchewsky has worked in the Clayton district for 11 years, 10 of which have been as an administrator at CHS. Heroin Forum Happens Monday Night in Clayton

The recent rise in heroin and prescription-drug use in St. Louis will be addressed at the public event.

A public forum about recent increased use of heroin and painkillers in the St. Louis area is planned Monday night at Clayton High School, the website Not-Even-Once.com states. The event is sponsored by the Clayton, Ladue and Brentwood school districts. A question-and-answer session will follow a presentation and panel discussion about the issue. The resignation of Dr. Louise Losos—reported Saturday by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch—follows weeks of speculation about the Clayton High School principal's social media use. On the night before the Clayton district announced Dr. Louise Losos would be taking a leave of absence, former high school quarterback Chase Haslett posted a note on a public Facebook group.
