City Services Safe Under 2013 Richmond Heights Budget

The city will leave several positions unfilled in order to attain a balanced budget, City Manager Amy Hamilton wrote in a memo this week.

Keeping several city positions unfilled for the 2013 fiscal year that begins July 1 will enable Richmond Heights to attain a balanced budget, City Manager Amy Hamilton wrote in a memo this week. The jobs that would remain unfilled for a fifth year are one police officer, two firefighter-paramedics and one public works operator. Various part-time staff hours also would not be filled. At the same time, the city would be able to maintain all of the public services currently provided to residents while providing a 3 percent merit pay increase to staff. Hadley Township Development: Costco and Pace Properties Submit Ideas

A total of three companies submitted development proposals to the City of Richmond Heights, the city's website states.

Three businesses including Costco and Pace Properties have submitted development proposals for the Hadley Township neighborhood in Richmond Heights, the city stated Friday on its website. Quoting from the city's website: "Copies of each are available for viewing upon request in the deputy city clerk’s office. The city will review the proposals and make a decision by April 16, 2012." Richmond Heights Chamber of Commerce Joins Facebook

The organization will hold its next meeting Feb. 8 at Maggiano's Little Italy.

A new Facebook page features updates and information about the Richmond Heights Chamber of Commerce. (See the page by going to Facebook.com/RHChamber.) The Chamber began in October 1984 and holds regular networking events throughout the city. Its next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 8 at Maggiano's Little Italy, part of The Boulevard-Saint Louis shopping area in Richmond Heights. City Manager Amy Hamilton will deliver her State of the City address as part of that event. A presentation about this year's business trends is planned March 14 at The Cheshire. Richmond Heights Centennial Planning Begins

The city's historical society is planning tours and a speaker series for 2013, while others are working on a large celebration paired with monthly events.

One large party, accompanied by a variety of monthly events, will serve as the cornerstone of 100th anniversary celebrations next year in Richmond Heights. Festivities likely would include a parade, carnival rides and music. That consensus came Thursday at The Heights during a centennial brainstorming session that included residents, city staff and elected officials. District 2 City Councilman Mike Jones is leading the effort and moderated the discussion. "We want to do it right," Jones said during his introduction. Retirement Planned by Richmond Heights Police Chief

Chief Rick Vilcek began working for the city in 1969, the city reported in its Community Update newsletter.

Chief Rick Vilcek of the Richmond Heights Police Department will retire in early January after nearly 43 years with the department, the city's Community Update newsletter reported this week. Quoting from the Community Update: "Chief Vilcek began his career with the RHPD in March 1969. His career included assignments in the patrol division, the detective bureau and was a member of the St. Louis Area Major Case Squad."
