Richmond Heights Amend Code on Alcohol Near Schools, Adopt Bike Plan

The city council for Richmond Heights passed two ordinances and adopted a resolution at last night's meeting.

The council unanimously passed two ordinances on their second readings. The first authorizes the Mayor to execute an agreement with the St. Louis County Emergency Communications Commission to provide radios to the city and enhance emergency communications. The second ordinance passed last night added a line defining "school buildings" as elementary or secondary education school to an ordinance that prohibits the sale of alcohol. The ordinance will not permit a business within 200 feet of a church, synagogue or "school" building. Last, the council unanimously passed a resolution to adopt the Gateway Bike Plan. The plan is a group effort from the Great Rivers Greenway, Trailnet and local governments in the St. Louis Metro area.

National Day of Prayer is Honored in Clayton

A dozen people bowed their heads Thursday during a gathering held near the St. Louis County Courts Building.

A dozen people gathered Thursday in Clayton to pray about institutions such as government, church, military and family. They met across from the St. Louis County Courts Building downtown in conjunction with the National Day of Prayer. While most stayed for a portion of the prayer gathering held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., some stayed for an hour or more. Pastor Rick Jones of Faith Community Church in St. Ann was among those who participated by leading a prayer. "More of you, Lord, less of us, this is our prayer," Jones said. David Fondren, a Clayton attorney, started organizing a yearly event for the city in 2007 in conjunction with the group Gateway National Day of Prayer. He began participating in the yearly prayer gathering about eight …

Candidates File for April 2011 Election

Three people had submitted paperwork for open seats on the Clayton Board of Aldermen, while three are seeking positions on the city's Board of Education.

*Editor's note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly identified the process by which members of the School District of Clayton's Board of Education are chosen for positions such as president. Board members are responsible for making those decisions following an election. The race for a Ward III seat on the Clayton Board of Aldermen will be contested, and the two candidates who had filed paperwork for that position shortly after 8 a.m. Dec. 14 said they would be active campaigners. Mark Winings, a business lawyer who has lived in Clayton for six years, said he would try to knock on every door in the ward. He said he arrived at City Hall at about 6:30 a.m., even though he couldn't begin filing until 8 a.m. "I'm going to focus on …
