Candidates for Ward 3 alderman and St. Louis County assessor met Tuesday for a forum sponsored by the Clayton Chamber of Commerce. This is a look at the discussion in reverse chronological order. 12:50 P.M.: Wood said he received a letter of apology from the St. Louis County Council for filing a lawsuit in error with regard to the payment of his taxes. He said that while he was late in the payment of his taxes, the lawsuit was filed months after they had been paid. Expansion and Tuition Increase Planned at Maplewood Richmond Heights Early Childhood Center

The MRH Board of Education approved the changes Thursday.

The Maplewood Richmond Heights Board of Education on Thursday approved the addition of a new preschool classroom and an increase in rates for two district programs. The new classroom would be staffed by one full-time teacher and two part-time aides at a cost of $89,875. The classroom is expected to serve 20 students and to generate $89,915 in revenue, representing a $40 profit for the district. The existing half-day classroom at the MRH Early Childhood Center (ECC) will be converted to a full-day classroom, and the seed-to-table classroom will become the half-day classroom, Principal Cyndi Hebenstreit said. “What I’m hoping is that by adding another classroom, we’re going to have fewer families that are brand new to us coming into …

SSM St. Mary's Offers Own Take on 'American Idol'

Nurses were among those who performed Thursday in Richmond Heights in conjunction with a competition sponsored by SSM Health Care.

SSM St. Mary's Health Center staff and a visitor belted out hits Thursday in Richmond Heights as part of a system-wide singing contest. The event, dubbed Mission Idol, is one of several aimed at getting staff excited about SSM Health Care's Mission Days celebration May 17-19, said Stacey Rynders, communications specialist at St. Mary's. That celebration focuses on reconnecting staff with the hospital system's mission statement: "Through our exceptional health care services, we reveal the healing presence of God." Three contestants auditioned for a chance to perform in May as part of the Mission Days Show Choir, while others—such as a group of nursing directors and leaders—sang simply for fun, Rynders said. Missouri Baptist University Will Offer Pre-Nursing Major for Undergraduates

The school has partnered with the Goldfarb School of Nursing, whose main campus is located near Clayton and Richmond Heights in St. Louis City.

Missouri Baptist University has joined forces with the Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College to offer a new pre-nursing major for undergraduates at the university. Students in the program will spend two years at MBU and then transfer to Goldfarb for two years of nursing classes to finish a bachelor of science degree in nursing. The main Goldfarb campus is located in St. Louis City, just southeast of Clayton and Richmond Heights. It operates on the grounds of Washington University Medical Center. At a recent reception on MBU's Creve Coeur campus, admissions counselors answered prospective students’ questions about the new major.
