Clayton Freshman QB Jake Brown Having 'Great' Experience

The Clayton High School student has thrown four touchdown passes this season as part of the Greyhounds varsity football team.

Clayton High School freshman football player Jake Brown is having an experience many his age can only dream of. This year, Brown is leading Clayton’s varsity football team as quarterback. “It’s just great,” Brown said. “When I think about it, this is just a whole other level. I’m getting two or three years' more experience than anyone else my age.” Brown said he’s learned a thing or two about the physical nature of the varsity game. “When you get hit, it hurts,” he said. “But you can’t really do anything about it, you’re the quarterback.” Brown has connected on 45 of 103 passes for 546 yards. Game Preview: Clayton Seeks Season's First Football Win

The Clayton Greyhounds will play the Affton Cougars at home Friday night.

Two teams desperate for their first win of the season will meet up at 7 p.m. Friday at Gay Field when Affton (0-2) meets Clayton (0-2) in the Suburban East Conference opener for both teams. Affton will play its first game away from home after hosting Union and Priory in the first two weeks of the season. Clayton plays at home for the second straight week. The Greyhounds opened the season at Lutheran North, then played their home opener last week against St. Francis Borgia. None of those contests went well for Affton and Clayton. Affton lost big in both of its matchups and has scored just twice this season. Junior quarterback Jonah Boyd has one of those scores, while senior wide receiver Connor McNeil has the other.
