Clayton Transfer Students' MAP Scores Reveal Successes

More information is now available about the 2011 test scores of African-American students who transfer to St. Louis County schools, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

African-American transfer students studying in school districts such as Clayton generally performed better on the 2011 Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) test than students at some other St. Louis County schools, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. Quoting from the Post-Dispatch article: "Magnet schools and the voluntary desegregation program were created in the 1980s to address segregation in St. Louis Public Schools and to settle a federal lawsuit. Through the transfer program, black children from the city may apply to attend predominately white school districts in St. Louis County." Clayton Has No. 2 Best Missouri High School, U.S. News Reports

The publication released the rankings last week.

Clayton High School has been named the No. 2 best high school in Missouri, according to rankings released last week by U.S. News & World Report. The school is ranked 136th best nationally. Its student-teacher ratio is smaller than the state average. Meanwhile, students ranked higher than average in the areas of college readiness, algebra proficiency and English proficiency. MRH Schools Honor Dozens of Employees

It happened May 3, Maplewood-Brentwood Patch reported.

Numerous employees of the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District recently received honors as part of an awards ceremony, Maplewood-Brentwood Patch reported. Among them: Mark Hancock, a maintenance supervisor who has been with the district for 30 years, and high school math teacher Cheryl Carmon, who received recognition as teacher of the year. Forsyth Closure Planned This Summer for Pedestrian Underpass Work

The project is a cooperative effort between Washington University and Clayton and is expected to close part of Forsyth Boulevard starting May 22.

A section of Forsyth Boulevard will be closed to through traffic from Big Bend Boulevard to Skinker Boulevard for most of the summer as a pedestrian underpass is built beneath the road near Olympian Way. The City of Clayton and Washington University are collaborating on the project, which is expected to cost approximately $2.1 million. The city obtained a federal grant for the project worth $772,000, and the school has agreed to cover the remaining costs. "This has been a good cooperative effort with city staff and Washington University," said Arthur Ackermann, associate vice chancellor for facilities planning and management, in an April 24 presentation to the Clayton Board of Aldermen. Louise Losos Gets $140K and Recommendation Letter with Settlement

The terms of the agreement were announced Tuesday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Dr. Louise Losos will receive $140,000 as part of a settlement agreement with the School District of Clayton, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday. The Clayton High School principal will resign effective later this year after a dispute about social media use. Quoting from the Post-Dispatch article: "As part of the agreement, Losos will take no legal action against the school district, and administrators have provided her a letter of recommendation." FOX2 VIDEO: Heroin Forum Held at Clayton High School

It happened Monday night, FOX2-TV reported.

A forum on the rise in heroin use in the St. Louis area happened Monday night at Clayton High School, FOX2-TV reported. Quoting from the FOX2 report, one speaker "told the audience that one way to stop a heroin addiction before it ever starts is to lock up the medicine cabinet at home.  He says many heroin users start their addiction by taking prescription pain killers." Clayton Principal's Resignation Draws Commentary Via Social Media

The announcement that Dr. Louise Losos will leave Clayton High School this summer has prompted feedback from people on Twitter and Facebook

News of the upcoming resignation of Dr. Louise Losos from Clayton High School over a dispute about social media use has prompted reactions from people via social media. At issue is an unconfirmed claim detailed in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Losos created a Facebook account under the name of Suzy Harriston and used it to friend students and others associated with the school.
