Fontbonne Women Philanthropists Mark Community Connection Anniversary

The group of close to 90 women is committed to giving at least $1,000 yearly toward projects associated with the Clayton university. It formed in 2007 and has awarded nearly $340,000 in grants.

A group of women committed to charitable giving for projects is celebrating its fifth anniversary, the school announced Wednesday in a news release.

“Members can be as involved as they would like,” stated Karen Gedera, immediate past president of the Fontbonne Community Connection (FCC). “All of us, however, believe in the importance and worth of education, and we value having a personal stake in our charitable giving.”

Since its founding in 2007, the group has given $339,000 in grants to Fontbonne for projects such as:

  • on-campus renovations
  • children's workshops
  • community play productions
  • on-campus seminar for local businesses
  • international service trips

The FCC comprises 86 members and has sponsored 65 projects, 14 of which received funding this year. Members commit to giving at leave $1,000 annually.

The group will be honored at 10:15 a.m. Aug. 29 at the school's yearly Academic Convocation in the Dunham Student Activity Center. A presentation of grants will follow at 11:15.
