Clayton suffers first-round loss in district football playoffs

The football team just couldn’t stay with University City in their district opener at Gay Field last Friday.

The visiting Lions football team totaled nearly 500 yards of total offense in a 56-22 win over the Greyhounds.

But Clayton senior Tyler Walker had a big night. He rushed 140 yards, made three touchdowns on offense and led the defense with 19 tackles.

This week, the Greyhounds are facing elimination from playoff contention if they are unable to take down archrival Ladue, which is also facing elimination at 7 p.m. Friday at Gay Field.

For the season, Walker leads Clayton in nearly every statistical category, including rushing, total yards, all-purpose yards, tackles and interceptions.

MRH volleyball earns No. 2 seed

The Blue Devils volleyball team is a No. 2 seed in the Class 2 District 5 tournament next week. They will open up with a match at 6 p.m. Monday against Lift for Life Academy.

MRH will host Senior Night festivities Wednesday with a regular-season closing match against Metro High of St. Louis.

For the season, the Devils are 12-15 and considered a dark-horse favorite to advance to the state playoffs this year.

Clayton volleyball team is a No. 6 seed in Class 3

The Greyhounds volleyball team received a difficult draw when the Class 3 District 6 pairings came out late last week.

The Greyhounds received a No. 6 seed for the seven-team tournament at Westminster Christian Academy next week. They will start out with a 6 p.m. Monday match against No. 3 seed MICDS.

If Clayton wins that match, it likely will face No. 2 seed tournament host Westminster at 6 p.m. Oct. 26.

The Greyhounds have no matches scheduled this week, so they will get a full seven days to prepare for a talented MICDS team that will come in with a 15-6 record when the teams meet.
