Shaw Park Takes Center Stage This Weekend For Baseball Showcase

Teams from all over the Midwest will battle for a berth in July's Greater Midwest Baseball World Series.

Baseball fields in Lake St. Louis, Bridgeton, and Clayton will serve as the home bases for one of the Midwest’s biggest and best summer baseball showcases, the Greater Midwest Baseball (GMB) St. Louis Super Series Tournament, which will be showcased around St. Louis this weekend.

The weekend’s event, the Missouri/Illinois Bi-State Championships, is one of nearly 20 tournaments GMB stages in the area every summer, and will feature all-day youth league baseball action for teams from all over the region, ranging from ages 11-18.

Friday and Saturday games will played at Founder’s Park in Lake St. Louis, and the Bridgeton Municipal Athletic Complex (BMAC) in Bridgeton, with the tournament semifinals and championship games slated for Shaw Park in Clayton on Sunday.

The marquee event of this weekend’s Super Series is the 18-under team tournament, which features several top St. Louis-area select club teams and several other top programs from Illinois.

Among the teams expected to play this weekend, are two teams from the Rawlings select baseball program, the Tigers and the Prospects, and two Rawlings Redbirds teams, the White squad and the Red squad.

Also appearing are the Warriors Gold and Blue teams, the St. Louis Captains, and the Wentzville Stallions 17U team.

Two of Illinois’ best summer squads will also play, as the Southern Illinois Bullets and Illinois Braves will appear, along with the Illini Baseball and Granite City Baseball programs.

Rounding out the group are the Mustangs and JSCA select programs.

Weather permitting, the teams are guaranteed three games this weekend, with all 14 of them playing some form of a doubleheader on Friday, tourney quarterfinal play based on seeding on Saturday, and the semifinals and finals on Sunday.
