Unfortunately, neither player’s touchdown came on a pass play, which has been one of the more deficient aspects of the Cougars’ offense this year.

Running backs Demontay Perkins and Dustin Rodgers have been productive in the running game though, with Perkins leading the team in total yards and Rodgers leading in average yards per carry.

Rodgers also has been Affton’s best player on defense, with a team-leading 23 tackles and two forced fumbles.

Clayton, meanwhile, has made some offensive strides this season despite its 0-2 mark. But the inexperienced Greyhounds have shown little consistency.

Sophomore running back Cailer Keaton leads the Greyounds in rushing with 169 yards and a touchdown, but the real key for Clayton will be stabilizing its QB situation. The Greyhounds have two talented players at that position in junior Aaron Adams and freshman Jake Brown.

Neither has distinguished himself as the go-to player to lead Clayton.

Their next opportunity comes in Friday’s showdown against Affton. Stay tuned to Clayton-Richmond Heights Patch on Friday night and Saturday morning for full coverage of the game.
