Clayton Hockey Team Snags 5-4 Win Over Ladue

It happened Monday night at the Queeny Park Ice Rink.

The ice hockey team picked up a huge win Monday night and snapped a five-game losing streak when it rallied for a 5-4 win over archrival at the Queeny Park Ice Rink.

Senior Conner Wiggins had a hat trick on the night to lead the Greyhounds, but it was fellow senior Gabe Jacus’ spectacular score late in the third period that proved to be the game-winner.

Clayton is now 2-5 on the season. Jacus leads the team and ranks among the top scorers in the area, with 13 goals and seven assists.

The Greyhounds will close the week with a pair of games Thursday and Friday.

At 8:45 p.m. Thursday, Clayton will take on at the Webster Groves Ice Rink. On Friday, the Greyhounds will match up against for a 9:30 p.m. contest at the .

Clayton boys hoops

The Clayton boys basketball team fell to 1-3 on the season after losing the third-place game in the Vianney Tournament on Friday night against No. 6-ranked .

Senior Clayton Buchanan, who is averaging 20.3 points and five rebounds per game this season, followed up a career-high 33-point night in the Vianney semifinals with a 12-point night against Hazelwood Central.

Teammate Tyler Walker had 14 points to lead the Greyhounds in a game that was tied after three quarters. But the Hawks pulled away to stay undefeated this season.

The Greyhounds hosted their first home game of the season, against Priory, on Tuesday.

Clayton girls hoops

The Clayton girls basketball team is winless this season. The girls lost their season opener in Rolla and all three games in the Clayton Round Robin Tournament last week.

Teammates and Lacei Sams, both averaging nine points per game, are leading the Greyhounds in scoring this season.

Clayton will next be in action Thursday night at Ritenour in Overland.
