Clayton Boys Soccer Team Wins Three in a Row

The Clayton High boys soccer team won all three games it played last week and has won six in a row to improve to 10-5 this season.

In those three wins, the Greyhounds outscored Parkway North, Affton, and McCluer 10-1. Most of the team's points came in last Thursday’s 8-1 win over McCluer.

Senior Charlie Harned remains Clayton’s leading scorer with 11 goals this year, but fellow senior Gabe Jacus was the star last week after he scored the game-winner in the 1-0 victory over Affton and netted a hat-trick against McCluer.

Another standout for CHS last week was running back Tyler Walker of the varsity football team.

The senior scored three touchdowns, including a thrilling 109-yard interception return that led the Greyhounds to a 28-17 win over Westminster Christian.

Teammate Cailer Keaton was also a big factor. He rushed for 118 yards and scoring a touchdown of his own as Clayton lifted its record to 3-4 on the season

The Clayton girls volleyball team went 2-1 last week, with wins over University City and McCluer South-Berkeley and a loss Friday at Jennings.

This week, the Greyhounds will play their final three matches of the regular season—at McCluer on Monday, at home against on Wednesday and at Principia on Thursday.

The girls softball team’s exciting season came to an end Thursday with a 9-1 loss to Kennedy in the district playoff semifinals at the Kirkwood Athletic Association.

The Greyhounds, who finished the year 15-5, fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and never recovered against a Celts team that went 18-5 this year.

Freshman was Clayton’s leading hitter and pitcher this season.

She went 11-5 in the circle for the Greyhounds and led in all three triple-crown categories. She had a .631 batting average, four home runs and 27 RBIs.
