Whiz Kid: Jake Bernstein Joins National Youth Service Council

The Clayton High School junior also volunteers at food drives.

Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Jake has been selected to be one of the members of generationOn's National Youth Advisory Council. The group is part of Points of Light Institute.

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Jake is one of just 10 students nationwide selected for the organization's first youth advisory council. "As part of the council, these young service leaders will help to develop and execute generationOn's key initiatives, and serve as ambassadors for the power of all kids to make their mark on the world," the group's website states. The organization promotes volunteerism among young people by working with service groups, schools, parents, businesses and other interest groups.

Jake, 16, volunteers at food drives, car washes and a crisis nursery, a biography on the site states. He also helped recruit young people to raise awareness of childhood hunger.

The Boy Scout also organized this year's at in Kirkwood, stated his sister, , in an email. He is a junior board member of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center's World Food Day event.
