Whiz Kids' Key to Awesomeness: The Clayton students tied for first in the junior-and-senior category of the TEAMS engineering competition with students at Boise High School in Boise, ID; Terre Haute South Vigo High School in Terre Haute, IN; and Saratoga High School in Saratoga, CA, a news release states. The Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) sponsors the event.

The Clayton students worked to use engineering "to solve the global energy 'supply and demand' problem," the release states.

They participated at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley,  JETS senior director Megan Balkovic stated in an email. Rex Rice coached the team.

The four schools will split a $2,500 prize and each receive a trophy. The students will receive medals and certificates of excellence.

And they weren't the only Clayton students to be recognized in the competition. The School District of Clayton's website has a complete list of honorees from the TEAMS event.

More than 10,000 high school students from 43 states and the District of Columbia participated.
