Whiz Kid: Clayton Students Take First Place in Engineering Competition

Numerous other Clayton High School students also received recognition, the school district states on its website.

Whiz Kids' Names and Ages: Charlie Beard, Ian Miller, Maddy Bullard, Ikshu Neithalath, Lily Gage, Becca Steinberg, John Holland and Sagar Yadama. All are juniors or seniors in high school.

Whiz Kids' Key to Awesomeness: The Clayton students tied for first in the junior-and-senior category of the TEAMS engineering competition with students at Boise High School in Boise, ID; Terre Haute South Vigo High School in Terre Haute, IN; and Saratoga High School in Saratoga, CA, a news release states. The Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) sponsors the event.

The Clayton students worked to use engineering "to solve the global energy 'supply and demand' problem," the release states.

They participated at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley,  JETS senior director Megan Balkovic stated in an email. Rex Rice coached the team.

The four schools will split a $2,500 prize and each receive a trophy. The students will receive medals and certificates of excellence.

And they weren't the only Clayton students to be recognized in the competition. The School District of Clayton's website has a complete list of honorees from the TEAMS event.
