Dear Cross Country and Track Parents –

Included below is an email that was sent to all CHS parents and guardians a few moments ago. I’m writing to let you know that over the next few days we will be meeting individually with all of our cross country and track athletes. We are meeting with these students to determine if there are any unreported complaints or concerns about the assistant coach referenced in my previous email. Please contact me directly if you have any questions or concerns about these brief interviews.

Sincerely,

Dear CHS Parents,

This afternoon, we learned that a part-time assistant coach at Clayton High School was recently accused of sexually assaulting a female student 27 years ago when she was a cheerleader and he was an assistant football coach at Normandy High School in 1984. The accusation was made last night by journalist/commentator Goldie Taylor live on MSNBC’s program The Last Word and reiterated with a posting on her website.

As educators, we are deeply troubled by any allegations of sexual misconduct and must take immediate, assertive action to ensure that school remains a safe place for students. Bob Bone, our athletic director, and I have been working with District administrators since learning of this incident earlier today. To date, we have not been made aware of any concerns at CHS about this coach. We are currently conducting our own internal investigation to ensure that there are no unreported complaints. This individual is not currently under contract with the District and will not be re-employed to coach in the spring.

The employee who is the subject of these allegations has been an assistant cross country coach (Fall 2010 and Fall 2011) and an assistant boys track coach (Spring 2010 and Spring 2011). He was hired in March 2010 and was cleared through the same thorough screening process used for all of our employees, which includes fingerprinting, an FBI background check and a child abuse/neglect report from the Division of Family Services.

Allegations such as this provide an opportunity to remind your children of the importance of speaking up when they feel an adult is behaving inappropriately or has crossed the line of acceptable behavior and conduct. If you, or your child, are ever aware of any inappropriate behavior by an adult, please be sure to contact the appropriate authorities.

Please feel free to contact me directly at 854-6002 if you have any questions or concerns. We take our responsibility for the safety and security of your children very seriously and will always take whatever steps we need to maintain the integrity of our schools and their programs.

Sincerely,

Louise Losos
CHS Principal
