PHOTOS: Clayton Homecoming Parade Features Cheers, Colorful Floats

Clayton High School's Saturday homecoming festivities featured a parade that began at the parking lot and ended at Gay Field.

's homecoming parade began at 11 a.m. Saturday and ended at Gay Field just in time for . A homecoming dance was planned for 8 p.m.

Students, parents and friends assembled early in the day at the school parking lot to apply the finishing touches to various floats, decorated golf carts and classic cars.

Parents, relatives and friends cheered as the parade began. The parade headed up Gay Avenue, along which several people had lined up. Golf carts with the student homecoming princesses, one for each grade level, led the parade. The colorful carts featured ribbons, balloons and posters bearing the name and a photograph of each young woman. Several of the students along the parade route cheered loudly as they passed.

Also on Gay Avenue, several people clapped to the beat of the music. The young men who make up the Junior Greyhound Football Team followed.  

Various decorated convertibles came next. They carried students representing DECA, a marketing and management association; the Clayton Gay Straight Alliance (GSA); and the Clayton girls' softball and golf teams.

Groups representing different grade levels closed out the parade. Student-designed floats included a simulated campfire in the back of a pickup truck. Students pretended to make s'mores and roast marshmallows. Another float featured a small ferris wheel.

The parade ended at the Gay Field parking lot, where it was met by several Greyhounds fans.
