Amy Chua, author and Professor of Law at Yale Law School, explores the differences between the “Chinese Mother” and “Western Parents” in this controversial memoir of her strict parenting style. According to Chua, while western parenting tends to encourage individuality, the Chinese philosophy emphasizes strong skills and work habits. Determined to raise her two Chinese-American daughters in the strict way her parents raised her, Chua comes to realize that when it comes to parenting, one style does not fit all.
