MU Extension's My Sustainable Sanctuary Series

This new program series will help to make your life and home more eco-friendly and environmentally safe.

You and your household may attend all or any of these four sessions you choose:

  • My Energy-Efficient Environment (Thu., Oct. 20). How to save energy in your home, lower utility costs, choose energy-efficient products and appliances, importance and cost of an energy audit and alternate forms of producing energy in the home.
  • My Healthy Habitat (Wed., Oct. 26).
    Environmental health and safety concerns in the home, including mold, lead, allergens, asthma, carbon monoxide, pesticides and radon;
    importance of using non-toxic cleaning products; integrated pest management.
  • My Renewable Re-build (Wed., Nov. 2)
    Building products made with recycled and non-toxic materials, finishes that have minimal impact on the environment, alternative forms of construction.
  • My Healthy Harvest (Thu., Nov. 10).
    Caring for your lawn and garden; raising healthy harvests safely with integrated soil, composting, and pest managementtechniques; improving your soil, fall lawn care practices, reducing fertilizer and pesticide applications; raised beds for vegetable gardens.

This series will be offered 6-8 p.m. Oct. 20 and 26, Nov. 2 and 10 at the World Trade Center Bldg., 121 S. Meramec, in Clayton. Parking is free after 6 p.m.

Instructors are Kandace Fisher, MS, MU Extension housing and environmental design specialist (Oct. 20 and 26, Nov. 2) and Nathan Brandt, MS, MU Extension horticulture specialist (Nov. 10).

Partners include Butterfly Works, CAASTLC, Inc., St. Louis County Department of Health, Green Building Supply and Habitat for Humanity.

The basic fee is $10 per household per class. The fee is only $30 (you save $10!) if you register for all 4 classes by Oct. 18. Pre-registration is required.
