Boys Hoops: Greyhounds Grab Big Win Against Priory

And the Maplewood Richmond Heights Blue Devils are off this week but are prepping for a big Christmas tournament in Poplar Bluff.

It was an entertaining week on the court for Clayton and Maplewood Richmond Heights high schools' boys basketball teams.

The Clayton Greyhounds played a pair of fantastic ballgames, winning one and losing one, in nonconference matchups against Priory and John Burroughs.

On Tuesday, the Greyhounds held off Priory for a 39-31 victory behind 13 points from Clayton Buchanan and 11 points and seven steals from Tyler Walker.

On Friday, Clayton couldn’t quite get over the hump, despite 18 points apiece from Buchanan and Walker, in a 49-46 loss to Burroughs.

The Greyhounds have three more big games scheduled this week.

On Monday night, they’ll host Lutheran South at 7 p.m. They'll then play road games at in Ladue on Wednesday and at small-schools No. 7-ranked in Creve Coeur on Friday.

The MRH Blue Devils went 1-2 in the Webster Classic last weekend with losses in their first two games against SLUH and Marquette, and a final-day win over .

MRH is off this week and doesn’t have games scheduled until after Christmas.

But when the Devils do get back to action, it’ll be a doozy: MRH will travel to Poplar Bluff to play in a Christmas tournament against a field that will include Memphis Hillcrest*—a 2009 Missouri state champion that features No. 1 national football recruit Dorial Green-Beckham.
