Time to Close your Irrigation System

It’s that time of year:  make sure your in-ground irrigation system has been closed and winterized. 

Each year, in order to prevent damage to your system, it is necessary to close out.  A qualified professional will need to close the valve that controls the flow of water into the system.  Next they will attach an air compressor to the supply line.  Then, with your system in test mode, pressurized air will be sent through the lines, forcing the heads to rise.  As the valves open on each zone, any water remaining water in the lines will be blasted out through the heads – making for an unusual visual.  This will help avoid cracked lines and heads from frozen residual water   The system control unit is then switched off until next watering season.

Once this process is completed, the plumber will file the backflow certificate with St. Louis County.   During a house sale, the seller must provide a copy of the certificate to the buyer that is dated no more than one year prior to closing.
