Our Favorite Neighborhoods – HILLCREST in Clayton, MO

The Hillcrest neighborhood, straddling the border between Clayton and the City of Saint Louis is especially sought-after.

The Hillcrest neighborhood, straddling the border between Clayton and the City of Saint Louis is especially sought-after. Located immediately South of Wydown Boulevard and West of Skinker Boulevard, the majority of the neighborhood is located within Clayton’s Boundary. There is sometimes confusion as the Saint Louis portion is also assigned the 63105 zipcode associated with Clayton.

Hillcrest’s streets include: Aberdeen Place, Arundel Place, Dartford Avenue, and a portion or University Lane (although none of the properties carry a University Lane address).  Evolving as an extension of the private places of the Central West End and Parkview, Hillcrest developed during the 1920s and 1930s and reflects architectural styles and building techniques popular during that era.

Although its vintage charm is a draw, the main reason for Hillcrest’s popularity is the location.  As always, it is about location!  Children can walk to Captain Elementary School, Wydown Middle School, The Wilson School, and The Forsyth School.  Faculty and staff can walk to the Washington University main campus.

There are several owners that bike to the medical campus via Wydown Boulevard  and through Forest Park.  Kaldi’s, Jimmy’s and the very popular DeMun Park are only a couple blocks away.  The 4th of July Parade and block parties are known throughout the area for being among the best.

There is a wide price range for homes in the neighborhood.  Recent sales vary from the low $500Ks to the highest at $1.25M.  There have been several newly constructed homes in the neighborhood in the last few years.  It is also not unusual for homes in this neighborhood to trade off-market before they have the opportunity to be sold and shown on the open market.  This is one neighborhood where you can do more walking and bike riding then driving your car!
