Winning Clayton Roof Proposal is $120,000 Under Budget

Aldermen have approved the contract with Geissler Roofing Company for the municipal garage at 8300 Shaw Park Dr.

The winning contract for a new roof planned at 's municipal garage came in more than $120,000 under budget, city documents show. But officials said last week they aren't concerned by the relatively low price.

Belleville, IL-based Geissler Roofing Company will remove old roofing on the structure at 8300 Shaw Park Dr. and replace it with a single-membrane system.

The city had budgeted $338,000 for the project, a memo from City Manager Craig Owens and public works director Mike Pratt states. It received five bids, including Geissler's roughly $215,000 proposal on the low end to Bi-State Roof System's roughly $299,000 on the high end.

During a meeting March 13, Ward 2 Alderman Cynthia Garnholz noted the value of the winning bid as compared to the budgeted amount. She a is cause for concern.

The city performed an extensive review of Geissler's past projects, Pratt said. He and Owens indicated the cost shouldn't be an issue.

Aldermen unanimously approved the contract, along with a contingency of approximately $32,000 that would cover the removal of an unneeded chimney and any unexpected costs.

Construction is expected to begin within 10 days of formal approval from the city. The project must wrap up within 90 days.
