Water-Main Replacement Planned in Richmond Heights

Lane closures are possible during the four-month project on Ethel Avenue, Missouri American Water stated in a news release.

Crews this week will begin a months-long effort to replace an aging water main along Ethel Avenue in .

The work by Missouri American Water will occur between Big Bend Boulevard and Bellevue Avenue, a news release states. It is set to be completed in September.

The line is roughly 85 years old. It will be replaced by a new section of pipe that is 8 inches in diameter. The work is expected to improve the flow of water to fire hydrants in the area.

Occasional closures of westbound Ethel are expected during construction, though they will be timed to minimize disruption to rush-hour traffic, the release states. Residents and business owners have been notified about the work.

The utility maintains about 4,200 miles of water mains in the St. Louis are and is expected to spend roughly $30 million on water main improvements during fiscal year 2012.
