What is a human companion? I understand that the Clayton politicians recently defied the will of the voters and "officially" recognized gay relationships, but I didn't know the indecent proclamation extended to human-animal relationships as well. What's next? Are they going to recognize human relationships with inanimate objects? I can see the patch article now, "Clayton resident Jane Do-gooder and her cucumber companion were recognized by the Mayor for their brave and tireless efforts at promoting the organic lifestyle at the farmers' market."

Thanks for your comments, J. To be fair, "human companion" was my choice of words, not the city's. During brief remarks, city officials referred to Mr. Dueker as the dog's owner.
