A city-produced booklet tells all you need to know to participate in Richmond Heights'100th birthday.

Richmond Heights is 100 years old in 2013, and is celebrating with 12 months of activities. A 16-page booklet includes some history of Richmond Heights, and details all the events througout the year.

From the history of Richmond Heights:

By 1913, the first section of the City was incorporated. Six more annexations completed the current configuration of Richmond Heights by 1928. It was strictly a residential city though businesses eventually were allowed and began to flourish.

The population grew during the 1920s and as a result, public services in the City expanded. In 1923, John Maloney was hired to run the police department and take care of the streets for $150 a year.

By 1927, the police department had moved into City Hall. In 1926, the City evolved from having one volunteer fire fighter, named Ted Hart, to employing a paid fire department.

In 1933, the Richmond Heights Lions Club disbanded and donated its remaining $16 to the City for a library. Citizens collected books door-to-door and the library opened in City Hall with 1,800 books.

The big event, The Grand Centennial Festival Oct. 11-12, will be centered around The Heights, and will include a parade, carnival rides, a race and other fun activities.
