One Interested, None File for Open Richmond Heights Seat

No one has filed to fill Gina Mitten's seat in the April special election.

One person came to pick up a candidate packet, but no one filed for the District 3 seat in Richmond Heights Tuesday.

Tuesday was the first day of filing for the April 2013 election. Richmond Heights is holding a special election to fill the remainder of Gina Mitten's term.

Mitten was elected in November to the 83rd District seat in the Missouri House of Representatives. She vacates her seat on the Richmond Heights city council when she takes her place in Jefferson City in January.

The newly elected council member would serve a truncated term, Irene Johnson, communications coordinator for Richmond Heights, previously told Patch.

"That person would fill the vacancy for three years," Johnson said.

Mitten won election to a third term on the council in the April 2012 election. Richmond Heights terms run for four years.

The filing period for muncipal elections is open until Jan. 15, 2013.

In other filing news, three people in Clayton filed to run for mayor.
