Inspection Reports: Clayton Pools Get Examined

Each pool in Clayton and Richmond Heights is regularly inspected by St. Louis County Department of Health officials. How did your favorite pool fare?

Summer is heating up, which means more people are headed to the pools in and .

Several pools were inspected by the St. Louis County Health Department in Clayton and Richmond Heights this summer. Patch examined those inspection reports and compiled information using publicly-available data published to the health department's website. 

Unless otherwise noted, all inspections in Clayton were conducted on a routine basis. A separate roundup of Richmond Heights pool inspections publishes Friday.

Clayton

Blast Fitness indoor pool, 7393 Forsyth Boulevard
Inspection date: June 20
Comments: The purpose of the visit was a closure notice.

lap pool and leisure pool, 50 Gay Aveue
Inspection date: April 11
Comments: Depth markings and transition line are missing, not correctly marked, or do not conform to size and color requirements of the code. No international diving signage and symbols are located around or on pool deck and walls.

  • Inspections were also conducted on May 15 and June 19. No comments were made in those reports.

Inspection date: June 19
Comments: No comments were written.

pool, 900 S. Hanley Road 1A
Inspection date: June 25
Comments: Flow meter not operating correctly.

  • An inspection was also conducted on May 25. In that report, the comments were: Transition points of pool are not visually set apart with a rope and float line, depth markers, and a 4-inch minimum line contrasting with the pool bottom. "No diving" markers or symbols are not located on the pool deck in shallow areas of 6 feet or less.

Kingsbury Club outdoor pool, 8009 Kingsbury Boulevard
Inspection date: June 13
Comments: "No diving" markers or symbols are not located on the pool deck in shallow areas of 6 feet or less. Transition points of pool are not visually set apart with a rope and float line, depth markers, and a 4-inch minimum line contrasting with the pool bottom.

Kingsbury Place Condo outdoor pool, 312 N. Meramec Avenue
Inspection date: May 30
Comments: Skimmer not properly installed/used. Deck chairs not 5 feet from pool edge. "No diving" markers or symbols not located on the pool deck in shallow areas of 6 feet or less.

  • All three comments were made again in a June 6 inspection report, but not in a June 13 one.

Maryland Walk Condo Association pool, 8025 Maryland Avenue
Inspection date: May 30
Comments: Handrails are not provided on both sides with all stairs, steps and ladders. "No diving" markers or symbols not located on the pool deck in shallow areas of 6 feet or less.

  • The handrails were again cited in the June 6 inspection report, but not in a report on June 13.

Old Town Village Condos pool, 160 N. Brentwood Boulevard
Inspection date: June 13
Comments: No shepherds crook with at least a 12-inch minimum length mounted in a conspicuous place. "No diving" markers or symbols not located on the pool deck in shallow areas of 6 feet or less.

Park Towers HOA indoor pool, 200 S. Brentwood Boulevard
Inspection date: June 13
Comments: No comments were written.

pool, 800 S. Hanley Road
Inspection date: June 5
Comments: Observed no bathing load sign. Observed no sign stating, "To register a complaint about the condition of this pool, contact Saint Louis County at (314) 615-8900." "No diving" markers or symbols not located on the pool deck in shallow areas of 6 feet or less.

  • Two of the comments were made again in a June 13 inspection report, but not in a June 25 report.

Shaw Park Aquatic Center wade pool and lap pool, 111 S. Brentwood Boulevard
Inspection date: June 25
Comments: Flow meter not operating correctly (wade pool).

pool, 7620 Forsyth Boulevard
Inspection date: June 19
Comments: No comments were written.

indoor pool, 710 S. Hanley Road
Inspection date: June 5
Comments: Main drain is not a contrasting color from the pool shell. Handrails are not provided on both sides with all stairs, steps, and ladders. Transition points of pool are not visually set apart with a rope and float line, depth markers, and a 4-inch minimum line contrasting with the pool bottom. "No diving" markers or symbols are not located on the pool deck in shallow areas of 6 feet or less. The pH level was not in the 7.0-7.8 range.

  • Two of the issues were again cited in a June 12 inspection report, but neither were cited in a June 25 report.
