How Property Owners Can Get Free Trees in Richmond Heights

It's part of the Richmond Heights's celebration of its centennial this year.

Here's a cool way that Richmond Heights officials are marking the city's centennial.

The city is giving away 100 trees to property owners throughout the year, notes a news release. Residents will be able to choose from 22 types of trees.

Officials will deliver the trees and even help property owners pick an ideal location if they desire.

In addition to beautifying a property, planting more trees across the city will help reduce storm water runoff, stated Tim Brunsman, the city's forester, in the release.

“As trees get bigger, they intercept the rain and they absorb it, not only through the roots once it hits the ground, but they absorb it through their leaves,” Brunsman stated. “Trees filter some of the pollutants out of the water that may be running down a street before it gets into a creek.”

The trees will be 4- to 5-feet tall.

To request a tree, residents may contact Brunsman at tbrunsman@richmondheights.org or 314-655-3656.

The city also plans to plant another 100 to 200 trees along public streets this year, the release notes.
