Former mayor Ben Uchitelle has been elected chair of The Metropolitan Zoological Park and Museum District board. The announcement happened Wednesday in a news release.
The board is responsible for setting tax rates in the district and meets between 10 and 12 times per year, said Patrick Dougherty, executive director of the district. Those revenues then are distributed to the Saint Louis Art Museum, the Saint Louis Zoo, the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Saint Louis Science Center and the Missouri History Museum.
Uchitelle has been on the board since April 2008. Officers serve for a year, though there has been discussion about changing the district's bylaws to lengthen terms to two years, Dougherty said.
Other officers this year are:

- Treasurer Gloria Wessels
- Secretary Robert Powell
- Assistant Secretary Thelma Cook
David Weber, the immediate past chair, and Jerome Glick also serve on the board. , managing partner of Clayton-based , is its legal counsel.
Annual revenue to the district has grown from $3.9 million in 1972 to nearly $73 million in 2010.
