Election 2012: Berger and Harris File First for Clayton Aldermen Seats

Alex Berger is seeking a fourth term on the city's board of aldermen, while Ward 2 Alderman Michelle Harris is seeking a third.

will seek a fourth term on the Clayton Board of Aldermen after taking a year off. He arrived at 7 a.m. at , where filing for the April election opened at 8.

The lifelong Clayton resident said he loves the city and has several goals in mind were he to be elected to another term in Ward 3.

He wants to work on fostering a sense of community between City Hall and the , among other entities. He wants to build citizen engagement as it relates to problem solving and the decision-making process. Berger said many residents have great ideas and resumes, which is beneficial to the city.

Berger also said he would like to address budget challenges with proactive financial management practices. He has told his friends that while they might think he's crazy for running again, it is something he wants to do.

Steve Lichtenfeld, who serves in the Ward 3 seat, will not be running in the spring because of term limits.

Ward 2 Alderman Michelle Harris also filed Tuesday. She is seeking a third term.

Harris said that she has been involved in a number of "great initiatives" during her time on the board and that she would like to see them through.

"A lot of them are still not complete," said Harris, identifying economic development as one such initiative.

Service on the board has allowed her to meet great people and learn a lot about the city, she said. The experience has laid the foundation for what she said would be her best term were she re-elected.

Harris also said she would like to foster more community spirit by bringing good people together to accomplish great things.
